Ok! I am approaching the brink! I am almost losing it!
The MD of KPLC launched something yesterday. He called it something 24 that was supposed to ensure that they respond to queries or problems OR SOMETHING withing 24 hours. If it appears that I do not quite get the details of what was said, it true. The something parts represent the times I was cursing him and his employers as he spoke.
Why the fcuk is he so happy launching something new when his product is already i shortage. I can imagine the rural families who have saved so much to finally get themselves on the grid only to be told that they cannot yet enjoy the electricity because there is rationing. The thing that get to me is that he was so happy. I was in this cyber that day and here is what I went through.
First, the generator that these guys are using is not the best in the market. Hey! This is a small cyber and generators are a luxury. So this generator had mood swings yesterday. It would cough and the lights would flicker on and off. The CPU would go off because there are no UPS’s here and then it would take another five minutes for these guys here to enter the passwords. I would then restore my session and continue where I left off. Mind you the internet is slow so I had to stare at the screen for everything to load again and as soon as they did, the generator would cough again and the same process would begin again. This went on three times before I GAVE UP AND LEFT IN FURY.
That is just the technical part. It is difficult to do any work here when four to five generators are noisily running just a few meters away. I try but it is difficult to hear myself think. In addition, I am breathing in the fumes from the diesel that is used to run these generators. You can therefore understand why I was so pissed when soon after declaring that this rationing would ease off in October, this guy went ahead smiling and launching his thing. (Two whole months from today!) If I was there, I would beat his head in and told him to go work on his effing timing. The generators here just got louder and I have to go. I have breathed in enough toxic fumes also.
I have more on this but will write them from home when the lights come back. Till then, bear with me.
This is one time that it really hurts to be Kenyan in Kenya or with a business here.
